About The Rockies
10.22.7
Shut the fuck up about the Rockies.
Seriously.
Everywhere I turn these days, I keep hearing the same goddamned thing: "How 'bout them Rockies??"
I fucking hate the way that sports fans think everyone in the world should (and does) enjoy watching sports. I hate how they believe that the outcomes of these little games are important. The fact is, if I were to walk around asking random cashiers and co-workers if they had read my favorite book, or watched my favorite movie...they just might think I was retarded.
Somehow this presumptuous, irritating behavior is considered acceptable in the sports community, though. On top of that, if you happen to give the wrong answer (or God forbid, be honest and admit that you don't care), then they look at you like you're some kind of complete asshole.
Well, I'm fucking tired of it. I couldn't care less about the Rockies, and until a few weeks ago, neither could anyone else!
Sports fans in this town are about as loyal as a bunch of 14-year-old girls. They only care about the local team that happens to be winning at the time. For years, that team has been the Broncos. I had almost completely forgotten that the Rockies even existed. Recently, though, people started slowly realizing that they might actually make it into the World Series.
All at once, billboards across the city magically changed to say, "GO ROCKIES!" The end-caps of every department store suddenly refused to display anything but purple and black. Everyone in the city was clamoring to display their "Rockies pride" in any and all fashions.
Meanwhile, their usual BFFs, the Broncos, haven't even been invited to the slumber party.
Frankly, I'm getting sick of all these fair-weather fans and bandwagon-jumpers looking down on people like me just because we don't give a shit which overpaid asshole can throw a ball further. It's fucking ridiculous that this should even be an issue.
So to the Denver-metro area, I have only this to say: Fuck you and the purple and black spray-painted horse you rode in on.
