The AVD Awards
2.15.5
The final stragglers left today at around one in the afternoon. It feels like AVD ended so soon, but perhaps that is only by comparison. The first AVD, for example, lasted for 5 days. This was a different time in my life, however. Back then I was 18, and cared too little about my responsibilities. In fact, looking back at it now, I was mere months away from losing that apartment due to non-payment.
Short as it may have been, it was the greatest AVD to date. The following are some of my favorite moments from the night:
Most Unexpected Guest Award
A tie...
This AVD was the least hyped-up AVD ever...yet, somehow several people showed up without being invited, or even told about it. I suppose AVD is now out of even my control to some extent. It was a pleasant surprise, as these were people I hadn't seen in years. Truth be told, I hadn't expected to ever see them again.
Brad, Nate, Fuckyeah, and Rummel

I haven't seriously hung out with Brad and Nate since way back in 2001, when I wrote about them in (the thornton song). The most interesting thing to me though, is the way they found my apartment in the first place. Apparently, they had made their first attempt to stop by a week ago. They ended up at the wrong apartment, but by sheer luck, that person knew who I was and led them here. That person was Rando. It truly is a small world.
Missing in Action Award
There is always at least one person at each party who simply disappears without a trace. For the rest of the night, everyone keeps asking where they went. Last night, that person was O'Malley. Had he not called me this morning, I would have assumed that this was to be his last known photo. At least it would have been fitting:
O'Malley

Most Awkward Moment Award
At one point I noticed that Jen was trying to use the bathroom. Her attempts were proving futile, however, because Ashley and Jin had locked themselves in it for reasons that I assume should be obvious. I decided to help her out. I cleared out the walk-in closet, and attempted to coax the little lovebirds into moving there. They opened the door, and Jen and I went in.
Here's where it gets awkward.
Instead of waiting to see how the negotiations went, Jen simply walked past everyone, sat down, and began to pee. Instead of negotiating, Ashley walked up to me and started kissing me. As she started to do this, I looked past her in order to gauge Jin's reaction. He didn't seem to care at all, as he was just sitting on the edge of the tub laughing.
So, at this point, Jin was sitting there laughing, Jen was peeing, and Ashley was making out with me.
Ashley and Jin

Definitely awkward...
Loudest Puking Award
This Guy

Seriously...people at the front of the apartment were asking me what the hell that awful noise was.
Wrong Place to Puke Award
When the loudest vomiter in the world decided he needed to make some noise, Jen was already manning the toilet. Apparently, when he pushed her out of the way, she decided that she still wasn't done. She simply turned around and began to puke in my bathtub. They looked like a sick two-headed monster.
Jen

As much as I wish she could have held it in for a moment, I suppose there were worse places for her to rid herself of stomach acid.
The Morning After Award
I'm gonna be honest...I cannot, for the life of me, remember this girl's name. What I do know is this: She's a stripper, and this morning she gave me a wonderful back massage...lotion and all. That deserves recognition in my book.
Some Girl

Hottest Girl To Ask If I Was Single Award
This award goes to Chelsea, an ex-girlfriend of mine who finally broke up with her boyfriend just last week. I definitely look forward to talking to her in coming weeks.
Chelsea and I

Best New Addition To AVD Award
Kitty

Most Broken Item Award
My old keyboard is no more. This morning when I attempted to type something, I realized that it was filled with some kind of liquor. When I say filled, I mean it: It took a good 30 seconds of tipping it over the sink before liquid finally stopped pouring from the side of it.
The Should've Been Here Award
Another tie. This one goes out to Newguy, who currently resides in Seattle, and Toni, who now calls Houston her home. I missed you guys, and I hope that you'll find a way out here for the next one.
Newguy and Toni

Here are a couple of other people from the night:
Charlie, Tira, Ace/Meggie, and Q

They must not have done anything interesting last night.
Well...until next year...
